I eagerly awaited arrival of this book. I knew it would be full of Jim’s wisdom not only for my horsemanship but also for my personal development. It exquisitely filled my anticipation! Jim’s quotes apply to riding, groundwork, and just being with horses. I read 2-3 quotes each morning and let them brew in my brain, especially as I spend time with my horses. This book helped shape a new mindset to create a secure environment for my horses, who began living in new settings, by focusing my attention on my horses’ communication. I didn’t realize that moving from a small parcel with wide-open spaces to a similar-sized area but confined by thick forests would be so distressing for them. I took the quote about beginning a new conversation with my horse on a day to heart and really listened to why they were uncomfortable, ended up clearing 2 acres of trees around their pasture and taking them on walks through the woods to support their confidence. What a refreshing change for them and me. This book contains many beautiful photos, art forms in themselves, and is attractively arranged. I recommend it for any horse-lover’s library.
