• Turnaround vs. Spin with Trevor Carter 11:57
On the surface the turnaround and the spin look similar but they each have different situational uses; in the show pen for a performance horse and in working cattle in a ranch horse show situation. Trevor Carter demonstrates the differences in these two movements and discusses how he prepares his horses to perform both clearly and effectively.
• Circles at the Lope with Shane Brown 20:35
Riding accurate circles can be a challenge at any gait and the canter or lope can provide an added level of difficulty for some riders. In this segment trainer Shane Brown offers some suggestions on how to accurately ride circles at the lope and help reduce your stress as a rider.
• Riding Plan Part 2 with Alice Trindle 40:37
Riding on your own can pose many challenges, one of which is finding structure and purpose for your rides. In this series of three segments Alice offers some guidelines of a riding plan, flexible in the specifics but structured in the topics. These lesson plans will help you find a way to develop your horse biomechanically while maintaining a willing attitude.
• Bridling Help with Jim Hicks 49:38
A horse that is not comfortable being bridled can be a challenge for even the most patient of horse owners. In this segment Jim Hicks demonstrates some approaches to prepare a horse for bridling. Getting the horse comfortable being handled around his mouth and ears and relaxing into a position that will help the task go smoothly. Having some solid strategies in mind will help you help your horse become more comfortable.
• Backing up a Hill with Martin Black 17:06
Having our horse use his hind end correctly might be a desired trait in the arena but riding out in the hills it’s more than desirable, it can be a matter of life and death. In this segment Martin Black demonstrates an exercise of teaching a horse to back up a hill to develop proper engagement, then he takes this skill out into the rocky hills of Idaho and shows how proper hind-end use can help keep you safe coming down hill.

The best part of these videos is when you have an ‘aha’ moment. Originally, I purchased this video for the Martin Black segment. I love backing up hills, but wanted to make sure I was perfoming the movements correctly. When I watched Trevor Carter’s segment, I slapped my forehead on the realization that the reining turnaround and the cow horse turnaround are totally different. When I go work my mare today, I will be feeling the difference. Just that simple realization can make a difference on how I work mare. After riding for 40 years, I still learn something new on every video.
