Product Description

Equine parasites are a fact of life – all horses get them, and that in of itself shouldn’t necessarily concern the average horse owner. The risk of diseases caused by worms in adult horses is low, and your vet is probably more likely to worry about parasites in foals and youngsters who may have underdeveloped immune systems. Scientists agree that horses in the US are over-dewormed, and report widespread resistance to the anthelmintics used to kill parasites as a result. Despite this, information around parasite control can be confusing and conflicting – it’s complicated, and there are a range of factors to consider when designing a deworming program for your herd.

This webinar explores the kinds of parasites that horses meet, and the problems they can cause. We’ll also discuss the most recent (2025) recommendations by parasitologists and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) for surveillance-based approach to parasite control, and how all horse owners/managers can play a role in responsible stewardship of the use of antihelmintics.

Class was  held Thursday June 26th via Zoom starting at 6pm MST.
