The hackamore is the first step in the development of the traditional bridle horse. Richard Caldwell offers some tips on safety and care for the hackamore. Having your get down rope in the right place can keep you in control during an unplanned situation. It is a good idea to teach a young horse how to stand for a rider to mount and dismount from both sides.
