A step in the right direction is worth more than ten in every other direction. Wendy Murdoch helps a student rider prepare for leg yields by having him focus on taking one step at a time. The first step in a leg yield is often the most difficult, so concentrate on accuracy in the beginning when you’re teaching this maneuver to your horse. Don’t forget about your own posture during this process. As you practice, it will take less and less time to prepare for this initial step. Soon you’ll be riding straight, balanced and correct leg yields with your horse.
