• An Introduction to Stockmanship with Martin Black 29:14
Stockmanship principles can be applied to any kind of animal you might be handling. In this lesson Martin Black introduces the concepts of balance point and flight zone and highlights how they apply as he moves a group of cattle for demonstration. • Colt Starting Ideas Part 2 with Ben Longwell 45:04
Building on the foundation from his work in the last issue Ben Longwell continues to prepare a young colt to be saddled. Working with the lariat he checks out how the colt might react to being cinched up so that if the colt might want to buck he would do that before Ben or his owner would get on. Once that checks out its on to saddling and some groundwork making sure to keep the colt in a learning frame of mind.
• Moving From the Hackamore to the Two-Rein with David Ellis 18:58
Making a transition from the hackamore to the two-rein can feel overwhelming. In this lesson David Ellis walks us through some of the details he considers when switching from the hackamore to the two-rein. Some thoughts are about tack and some about how the horse feels. Enjoy his experienced perspective.
• Cycling the Energy in the Canter with Jim Hicks 25:24
When riding a talented young horse with a lot of energy a different set of challenges might arise in the canter. In this lesson Jim Hicks shows some ways that he can help his horse to learn to have her energy cycle in the canter. And perhaps most important how to be flexible in a ride and still accomplish your goals.
