Hackamore Safety and Tips with Richard Caldwell
The hackamore is the first step in the development of the traditional bridle horse. Richard Caldwell offers some tips on safety and care for the hackamore. First he demonstrates how to tie the mecate to the bosal and measure the rein length that is right for your horse. Then he shows us how to tie the reins for leading the horse.
Richard takes us through safe mounting procedures, which could prevent a rider from getting kicked or hung up. Having your get down rope in the right place can keep you in control during an unplanned situation. It is a good idea to teach a young horse how to stand for a rider to mount and dismount from both sides.
